X-6227 Gloss Aquathane Waterborne Floor Finish

COLOR(S): Clear and Tints.

PRODUCT TYPE: Modified Aliphatic Urethane Dispersion.

DESCRIPTION: A waterborne, easy-to-apply complete wood finishing system. Grain raise and dry finish are not a problem and, in most cases, stain and finish may be recoated within one hour or less. The solids content in this system is higher than conventional nitrocellulose lacquers or oil-based stains making film build and aesthetic looks better than conventional systems. This is a highquality aliphatic urethane which is non-yellowing, highly durable and stain resistant.

Intended Use: Primarily designed as a high abrasion resistant coating for hardwood floors; but is widely used for kitchen cabinets, coffee tables, fine wood furniture, table tops, clear wood trim varnish, etc.

SURFACE PREPARATION: The surface to be coated must be clean, dry and free of oil, dirt and grease. For best results, the surface should be thoroughly smooth sanded before applying the first coat of color or finish.

APPLICATION:

COLORS: Apply a thin, even coat to the clean, sanded surface with a painter’s trim pad or fine, soft bristle brush. Allow to dry until tack free before recoating with finish. For deeper & brighter colors, apply successive coats of the stain right over itself. You need only to lightly sand with #220 grit , #320 grit or finer sandpaper between coats. In many cases, it is not necessary to sand between the second and third coats. For extra durability, as many as three coats of the finish may be applied.

FOR HARDWOOD FLOORS: Sand, sweep, vacuum and stain the entire floor area at least one day prior to application of finish. We recommend Farwest Aquathane E-Z ON/OFF Waterborne Wiping Stain for a complete aqueous system. Other stains approved for use are: Farwest High Solids Penetrating Oil Stain (V.O.C. : 350 grams per liter) Farwest #685 Stain McCloskey Tung Seal Stains Before using oil stains not approved for use with this product, an adhesion test must be made prior to use. Oil stains tend to plasticize waterborne resins, thus preventing or lengthening development of adhesion. Apply a free-flowing film of Farwest Aquathane Finish keeping a constant wet edge. The best type of applicator is a foam-backed short nylon bristle at least eight inches wide (painter’s pads may be used on small areas). Lambs’ wool may be used, although it is easier to control the film thickness and feather-out with the nylon foam. Pull the applicator forward and backward in front of you, much in the same way as if waxing a floor. Feather out the strokes to even out the film. Apply two to three coats lightly screening or sanding between each. Three coats will provide a very good aesthetic look and adequate protection in normal traffic areas. High traffic areas such as kitchens, hallways and entries may be coated an extra time.

CARE AND CLEANING: Furniture may be moved back onto the floor within one to two days. It is recommended that furnishings be put down on felt pads. The coating will develop its full hardness within one week, but continues to cure for several weeks. Sweep floors with a dust mop. Clean with one cup white vinegar to one gallon luke warm water with a lightly dampened sponge mop. DO NOT APPLY LIQUIDS TO FLOOR FOR AT LEAST 2 WEEKS. NEVER WAX THE FLOOR.

MAINTENANCE, TOUCH-UP, REPAIR, AND RECOATING: Farwest Aquathane Finish may be used to touch up areas receiving concentrated wear and use. Recoating may be done at any point in time after lightly sanding or screening.

APPLICATION TO FURNITURE, CABINETS, AND SMALL AREAS: Surface preparation is basically the same as above. Furniture, cabinets, and small areas may be coated by use of a small painter’s pad or a good quality soft bristled latex brush. This material may also be applied with conventional air gun spray equipment without any reduction in viscosity.

THINNING: No thinning is necessary or recommended.

CLEAN-UP: Tools and equipment may be cleaned with warm regular tap water. It is best to clean-up as soon as is possible as this material develops rapid water resistance.
